What’s Causing Price Changes / Trends

Here are key factors that have been influencing how moisture meter prices move up or down in Uganda:

1. Import Costs & Exchange Rates
   Most moisture meters are imported. Costs from overseas (purchase price + shipping + import taxes/duties + customs) are sensitive to the Ugandan Shilling (UGX) performance against foreign currencies (USD, Euro, Yuan, etc.). When UGX weakens, the cost of importing increases, pushing up retail prices. Conversely if UGX strengthens, there is room for price reductions.

2. Tariff, Duties, and VAT
   Taxes and import duties add to the landed cost. Any change by the Uganda Revenue Authority in duty rates, or in rules regarding electronics/precision instruments, can shift price trends.

3. Supply Chain and Shipping Costs
   Global freight/shipping rates, availability of components, logistics (especially during periods of disruption) impact how much suppliers must pay to get units into Uganda. Delays, container shortages, or increased freight cost will push prices up.

4. Technological Features & Demand
   As newer models emerge with more features (better accuracy, wider moisture ranges, multiple crop calibration, digital display, temperature compensation, data storage, rugged casing), those tend to cost more. Demand from agriculture (grain, coffee), construction (concrete, wood) etc., pushes suppliers to stock more advanced models.

5. Competition & Local Market Dynamics

From what I gathered:

• However, high-precision and branded models are staying pricey, or even increasing slightly, because their import costs are more sensitive to currency/transport rates, and demand is stable or increasing among exporters / industrial users.
